About Bodmin... Bodmin Moor is one of the last unspoilt areas in Cornwall. Rich in ancient ruins, history, legends and myths. The landscape is dominated by breath-taking granite tors towering over the vast expanse of open moorland. The world famous Jamaica Inn, which inspired Daphne Du Mauriers' best selling novel, is a must to visit when in the area. An area of outstanding beauty, Bodmin Moor is the largest area of semi-natural habitat in Cornwall. The granite outcrop forming the core of the the area gives rise to several key geological features such as the tors and slopes, minerals and inverted river profiles. High moor has tracts of unimproved grassland, separated by shallow valleys with mires and bogs, scattered heathlands and rocky outcrops. The valley mires form the headwaters to a number of major watercourses including the Fowey, Lynher and Inny.
Golitha National Nature Reserve (a well known beauty spot) with a series of rapids and waterfalls is situated within a deep, tree clad, granite gorge on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor. Oak woodland makes up the majority of the reserve. It is a diverse environment which provides shelter & food for many birds, insects & plants. The woods were first recorded in the Domesday book in 1083.
